The IRS has updated the standard mileage rates for 2026, reflecting changes in costs and usage trends. These rates are used to calculate deductible expenses for business, medical, moving, and charitable purposes.
What’s New for 2026?
The most notable change is an increase in the business mileage rate by 2.5 cents, bringing it to 72.5 cents per mile. This adjustment helps account for rising fuel and maintenance costs.
2026 Standard Mileage Rates
Business Use: 72.5 cents per mile (up 2.5 cents from 2025)
Medical Purposes: 20.5 cents per mile (down 0.5 cent from 2025)
Moving Purposes: 20.5 cents per mile for certain active-duty Armed Forces members and now certain members of the intelligence community (down 0.5 cent from 2025)
Charitable Organizations: 14 cents per mile (unchanged from 2025)
Why It Matters
These rates are essential for taxpayers who deduct mileage expenses or reimburse employees. Staying updated ensures accurate record-keeping and compliance with IRS guidelines.
